Santuario del Frassino in Verona (Italy)

I received a multi-view postcard featuring the Santuario della Madonna del Frassino in Verona, Italy from Matteo of Italy.

This is the first postcard I received in an envelope.

Located about two kilometres from Peschiera near lake Frassino, the Sanctuary of Madonna del Frassino dates back to 11th May 1510 when the Madonna appeared to the peasant Bartolomeo Broglia in "Contrada Pigna,"outside the walls of Peschiera del Garda.

It is said that he was working an a field and was saved from a snake by the intervention of the Madonna after he had called for her. The snake fled and a statuette of the Madonna with child appeared, surrounded by a bright light, in the braches of an ash tree (frassino). The farmer took the statuette home with him, but shortly afterwards it reappeared between the branches of the ash. It was then decided to have a sanctuary built on the site.

Inside the Sanctuary, erected between 1511 and 1518, in Renaissance style, the miraculous clay image of our Lady lays on the historical ash tree where she appeared. It has housed the small statue of the Madonna for over four centuries.

Here are the stamps that he used on the envelope:
