Angkor Wat in Angkor (Kingdom of Cambodia)

The second postcard from Cheerful Dimaculangan is of the Angkor Wat in Angkor (Kingdom of Cambodia). Cheerful used to stay in Cambodia but is now in Thailand.

Angkor Wat is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. Dedicated to Vishnu, it was built as the king's state temple and capital city. In the late 13th century, Angkor Wat gradually moved from Hindu to Theravada Buddhist use, which continues to the present day. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture.

The modern name, Angkor Wat, means "City Temple." It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors. Since December 1992, Angkor Wat and other Angkorian monuments have been classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
