Year of the Horse stamps- Philippines

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Philippine Postal Corporation issued two sets of stamps depicting the Horse.

The first set was issued on December 2013. This set consists of two stamps that came in denominations of Php 10 and Php 30. Each value had a miniature sheet of ten stamps. A souvenir sheet also came out with a block of 4 featuring two of each value.

The first set followed the same artistic style of previously-issued Chinese New Year stamps. The predominantly yellow stamps showed the stylized drawing of the animal, and the stylized drawing of the head of the animal.

However, unlike the previous years, the PHLPost issue a second set of Year of the Horse stamps. Launched on the day before the Chinese New Year (as Chinese New Year was declared a Special Non-Working Holiday this year), the second set feature a souvenir sheet that featured a strip of three stamps. The central stamp showcases this year's animal, the horse. With a value of Php 100, the stamp design features a gold-foil embossed likeness of a horse. To its left is a smaller stamp worth Php 50 that features a silvery likeness of the animal in last year's zodiac, the snake. At the other side (right) of the horse stamp is another smaller stamp also worth Php 50 that features a bronzen likeness of next year's animal zodiac, the goat. Each souvenir sheet is worth Php 200.

A first day cover was issued with the date of issue marked as January 31, 2014. However, due to delays in the delivery of the printer, only 100 copies were actually available on the first day of issue and were autographed by the Postmaster General. The remaining sheets and the first day covers were made available to the public from 10 February.
